Lila Jean Hanna

Lila Jean Hanna, 83, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. 

Born on January 29, 1941, in Pamplico, SC, she was the daughter of the late Jake Evander and the late Ida Poston Colee Hutchinson. 

Jean was a long-time member of Lowcountry Free Will Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. She was deeply committed and served in many areas as needed for many years in the church. She was an avid babysitter and loved every child that walked into her home. 

Lila is preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Ida Colee Hutchinson, as well as her husband of 62 years, Clifford J. Hanna, who passed away in 2021. She is also preceded in death by her siblings:  Roger Hutchinson, Johnny Hutchinson, Mazie Lee Stephens, Thelma Kennedy, and Joyce Lee. 

Lila is survived by two children, Clifford Darrell Hanna (Sara) and Wanda Jean Suggs (Andrew); as well as two granddaughters, D. Renee Hanna and Rachel D. Fitzgerald (Joshua); four great-grandchildren: Joshua Jr., Haley, and Hanna and Heather Fitzgerald; sisters, Gayle Kelly (Joe) and Louise McBride; brother, Donnie Hutchinson; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation – West Ashley, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm, also at McAlister-Smith Funeral and Cremation – West Ashley.

Burial will be held following the funeral service at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lowcountry Free Will Baptist Church, 2720 Shadow Lane, North Charleston, SC 29406, https://lowcountryfwbchurch.com/ or the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org.
