Cayce, SC

CAYCE, SC - Linda Joan Copeland, 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Cayce last week.  Linda, also affectionately known as LC to her friends and Lin-Lin to her family, was born in Columbia to her late parents, Grady and Thelma Copeland.

Linda attended Olympia High School and joined the Air Force after graduation.  After her stint in the Air Force, she attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a degree in experimental psychology.  She attended graduate school at Florida State University, Rutgers University, and Clemson University.

An avid athlete, Linda excelled and lettered in both volleyball and softball at the collegiate level.  While attending graduate school, she worked on the athletic staff of the aforementioned schools.  She was the head volleyball coach at Clemson University from 1980-1982 which is when her deep love for Clemson began.  She spent the rest of life trying to convert her family the Clemson side!

After retiring from college athletics, Linda worked numerous jobs in the area of customer service.  Her favorite job began in 2016 when she retired, a fact she loved repeating to everyone who would listen.  Linda also loved animals and always had a pet or three in her life.  Though she deeply loved all her pets, her beloved cat Pippen and dog Xena will be with her at her final resting place.

Linda is survived by her brother and sister-in-love, Gerald and Suzette Copeland of Hopkins and her sister Mary Sue Kincaid of Midlothian, VA; her nieces Christy (Todd) Wingard of Cayce, Sherri Copeland of Atlanta and Natalie (Jim) Crosland of Columbia; nephews Kris (Janice) Kincaid and Kayne Kincaid of Virginia; great-nephews Tate (Emily), Trace, Jimmy and Grady; and great-niece Kaitlyn; and one great-great nephew, Talon.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her much-loved nephew, Gerry Copeland.

Linda's family will hold a memorial service for her on Saturday, November 25th, 2023.  The location asnd time will be announced later as this is the date of the annual Clemson-Carolina game and Linda would be angry if her service forced anyone to miss the game!  Please feel free to wear something Carolina or Clemson to her service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Linda's memory to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, State St, 200 State St, West Columbia, SC 29169, 803-999-5015.
