Linda Elizabeth Godin, a beloved matriarch, cherished wife, devoted mother, and strong woman of faith, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, surrounded by the love of those she so faithfully invested in throughout her life.
Born on January 7, 1948 in Bennettsville, SC, Linda was a daughter of the late Beulah Chapman Potter and Cecil Potter.
She graduated from Hanahan High School and soon met the love of her life, Ray. Linda and Ray were married on Day Month, Year. Following her marriage to Ray, Linda worked at Westview Middle School where she tirelessly cared for and developed her students, who came to love her. Linda’s dedication and love were truly endless. She was the heart of the family and was never too busy to provide advice, encouragement, and love. She found joy in preparing meals and bringing her loved ones together—celebrating holidays, birthdays, accomplishments, and simple, every day moments with laughter, food, and unending love. Her potato salad, dressing, and deviled eggs were family favorites and became nostalgic to many joyous celebrations.
Linda had a knack for wording the perfect celebratory card and made sure to attend every birthday, recital, ball game, graduation, and sacramental celebration, regardless of distance. Family gatherings of any kind delighted her—especially if they involved chocolate! Her home was known for its warmth, welcome, and joy which generated a sense of comfort, happiness, and completeness.
Linda’s demeanor was driven by her Biblical faith, which she often spoke of. Her faith gave her a strength and peace that enabled her to touch many lives. Linda’s love for the Lord has been a significant inspiration for those who were blessed to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and family which will continue for generations.
Linda is already deeply missed and will be lovingly remembered for her gentle spirit, wise words, strong faith, and the overwhelming joy she brought into every life she encountered.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Roy Potter, Eddie Potter, Bobby Potter, and Sandra Potter.
Linda is survived by her husband, Raymond (Ray) Godin of fifty-nine years and her three sons: Raymond (Ray) Jr. (Jeannie), Kenny (Saundra), and Mike (Jennifer). Forever cherished and remembered by her grandchildren Deri Godin, Ashley Dorton (Greg), Triliise Sanders, Taylor Peacock (Nick), Brooke Godin, Dalton Godin, Harley Godin, Addison Godin, Lauryn Kent, and Peyton Whitehair (Jordan), as well as seventeen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, her sister Karol (Pat) Loftis (Darius), and her brother William (Billy) Potter.
The family will receive family and friends on Monday, January 5, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 869 St. James Avenue, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
