Margaret J. Grimball, 100, of Johns Island, South Carolina, and beloved widow of Ernest W. Grimball, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Born on May 21, 1925, in Charleston, SC, Margaret was a daughter of the late Johanna Buck Jacques and Thomas Edward Jacques.
Margaret was a woman of deep faith and love for her Lord and Savior. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church at which she worshipped weekly until health issues made travel impossible. Margaret was an avid gardener, and whenever the weather cooperated, she could be found outside working in her flower beds and encouraging her potted plants to grow. She was also a seamstress of exceptional talent and was able to craft all possible items of clothing from christening gowns to sweaters to quilts to wedding gowns. Above all, Margaret was a beloved wife, a devoted mother to her three children and a loving “Gammy” to her five grandchildren and to her six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Ernest, Margaret is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan G. Hirsh; brothers Leonard Jacques, Thomas E. Jacques Jr.; grandson, Ernest W. Grimball IV; and granddaughter, Rebecca Amanda Harris.
Margaret is survived by son Ernest W. Grimball III (Kathleen); daughter Anne G. Minshew (Grey); sister Elizabeth J. Haselden; brother Charles Jacques; grandsons James C. Austin, Grey Becker Minshew (Anna), and Evan F. Minshew (Aubrey); great-grandsons Tyler A. Grimball, Kameron W. Grimball, and great-granddaughters Nadine S. Austin, Caily G. Poole, Eloise A. Minshew, Naomi J. Minshew and several nieces and nephews.
