Margaret Wiseman

August 3, 1937 — December 19, 2022

Mount Pleasant

Margaret (Peggy) Anne Gaston Wiseman went to be with Jesus on Monday, December 19, 2022 at 12:05 AM. Peggy was born August 3, 1937 in Chattanooga, TN as the first child to two adoring parents, Marion and Gertrude Gaston. Peggy, her twin brothers Joe and Charlie and her beloved, baby sister Hildegarde, grew up on a farm in Burlington, Iowa where they learned the value of hard work. Peggy attended Vanderbilt University where she trained to be an audiologist. In 1962, she married her husband David Reid Wiseman. Peggy and Reid lived in Durham, NC and had two daughters, Christiana and Annie.

In 1976, they moved to Charleston, SC, where she worked part-time as an audiologist at Charleston Speech and Hearing Center and for Charleston ENT until she retired at the age of 80. She was a faithful member of Church Creek Reformed Presbyterian Church for over 40 years. During this time, she began a ministry for the widows of Charleston, Rejoicing Widows, following in the path of her mother who had founded a Widows Ministry in Chattanooga. Her little band of prayer warriors devoted themselves to Jesus' teaching, to fellowship, to breaking of bread and to prayer, supporting each other in times of need. She was her father's child in temperament with whom she shared an easy-going nature, except on the tennis court where they played to win. Peggy also taught all her children and grand children to play tennis.

Peggy was full of grace and joy and beauty. She was a faithful friend to many, a fantastic wife, mother and grandmother, a gourmet with a keen sweet tooth and a Bible scholar with a gift for applying scripture verses to all of life's triumphs and challenges.

Peggy is survived by her husband, David Reid Wiseman; her daughter Christiana Dillingham and her husband Lawrence Dillingham of Leicester, NC; her daughter Annie Wiseman-Floyd and her husband Michael Wiseman-Floyd of Boone, NC; her grandchildren, Lucas Dillingham, Isaac Dillingham, Sophie Rose Wiseman-Floyd, Levy Wiseman-Floyd, Eliza Joy Freels and Merlange Alexandre; her siblings, Joe and Charlie Gaston and Hilda Tecklenberg and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Wednesday, December 21 at 2 PM at Church Creek Reformed Presbyterian Church, 2234 Plainview Rd. Charleston, SC 29414. The interment will be held on Tuesday, December 27 at 12 PM at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN.
