Mary Frances Evans, 79, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Born on November 11, 1945, in Charleston, SC, Mary was the daughter of the late Anna Sophia Louise Doscher Jenkins and the late William Thomas Jenkins

It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of Mary's passing. Her life was a remarkable testament to unwavering dedication, boundless energy, and the power of unconditional love. A beloved mother, daughter, aunt, and friend, Mary's influence touched countless lives.

Her commitment to her family was unparalleled. She dedicated herself to nurturing and supporting them, consistently prioritizing their happiness and well-being. This selfless devotion extended to her community, where she was an active and valued member of both Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Lutheran Church, attending services faithfully with her loved ones.

Following her graduation from Saint Andrew's Parish High School and Palmer College, Mary enjoyed a distinguished thirty-year career as a secretary at MUSC's College of Nursing, making significant contributions to the supportive and nurturing environment for students and faculty. Retirement marked not an end, but a vibrant new chapter, allowing her to fully pursue her passion for gardening - a cherished family tradition she continued with exceptional skill and dedication. Her stunning gardens, frequently recognized with "Yard of the Month" awards, reflected her tireless work ethic and infectious enthusiasm. Even South Carolina's challenging summers couldn't diminish her unwavering spirit and joy.

Mary's life was filled with cherished memories. From childhood explorations in the woods with cousins and playful adventures with a magnifying glass and ants, to family vacations at Folly Beach filled with crabbing and joyous celebrations, she embraced life with boundless zest. Large family reunions at Charlestown Landing further strengthened these familial bonds, providing opportunities for connection and shared experiences.

Beyond her devotion to family and community, Mary possessed exceptional artistic talent. She brought joy to family and friends through her piano performances and recitals, and collaborated on numerous ceramic painting projects.

Mary's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. Her memory will be eternally cherished, especially by her family who will deeply miss her loving presence.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Pratt and nephew, Marcus Pratt.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Anna Marie Jones (Michael Shawn Jones) and son, William Joseph Evans.

The family will honor Mary with a private celebration of her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lowcountry Veterans or Charleston Animal Society.
