Mary Jane Herrick

Mary Jane Herrick, 96 of Daniel Island, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023.

Born on May 6, 1927, in Whiting, Indiana, Mary Jane was the third child of the late Mary Gladys Greene (nee Scott) and Carl C. Greene.

The family moved to Chicago, Illinois, shortly after her birth. In 1946, she met and married her beloved husband, Jack, and shortly after started a family. In 1969, they left the cold of Chicago for warmer weather and landed in Miami, Florida. In 1972, the family settled in Columbia, South Carolina. There, Mary Jane worked as an office manager for a medical group until her retirement to Pawleys Island in 1993. In 2007, after the death of her husband, she moved to Daniel Island, South Carolina.

Mary Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and especially her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Pawleys Island, South Carolina. She was a volunteer at the East Cooper Medical Center from 2007 until the Covid pandemic hit in 2020.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Herrick and her daughter Linda Marie Herrick.

Mary Jane is survived by her sons, John Eugene Herrick (Ginger) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Scott Walls Herrick (Barbara) of Tucson, Arizona, and her daughter Cynthia Lee Wing of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and, curiously, no great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on December 21, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, Charleston, South Carolina.
