Mary "Kay" Mosier

Mary Catherine Mosier, 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Born November 5, 1938, in Louisville, KY, to late parents Mary Catherine Orthober and Wenzel Orthober.

Mary Catherine, remembered as “Kay”, was nothing short of astonishing. In her early years, she graduated from Nazareth School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky. She spent her time as a labor and delivery nurse at St. Francis Xavier, East Cooper, and Roper Hospital. Furthermore, Kay was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. Her life’s work illustrates her devotion to serving others. Outside of her career, she enjoyed growing her faith, playing card games with family, fishing, volunteering, and was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star organization. She will be remembered as a benevolent individual who can not be captured in words.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Wenzel and Mary Catherine Orthober; brother, Eddie Orthober; sister, Shirley Orthober; her first husband Charles Parrish, with whom she shared two children; second husband, Conway Muckenfuss; and third husband, Jim Mosier. Her caring nature allowed her to support each husband until their passing.

Mary is survived by her son, Robert Parrish (Joy); daughter, Rebecca Lorenz; brother, Leo Orthober (Leslie); grandchildren, Crystal Parrish, James Sawyer II (Kelly), Justin Sawyer, and Katie Lorenz; great-grandchildren, Logan, James III, Braiden, Hunter, Malia, and Ethan; great great-granddaughter, Aubrey.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 2940. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC.
