Maureen Grierson Wright

Maureen Grierson Wright died peacefully at home with her family on November 26, 2025, at the age of 87.

Maureen is survived by her daughters, Angela Wright Weir of New York, NY, and Pamela Wright Howell (Trip) of Asheville, NC; three cherished grandchildren - Carolyn Grierson Howell (Eli Clevenger), William Howell, and Olivia Weir; her treasured baby brother, Hugh; and adored cousins, nieces, nephews and family in Scotland, Australia, England, and Hong Kong.

Maureen was born in 1938 in Greenock, Scotland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Allan and Molly Grierson, and (by just days) her beloved brother, Allan.

Maureen lived with relatives in New York City when she first came to America in the late 1950s and became an American citizen in the ’70s. Upon moving to Charleston, she enjoyed a long career with the Charleston Housing Authority. Maureen maintained lifelong friendships around the globe and proved that “closeness” in relationships has nothing to do with geography.

Maureen valued time with her children and grandchildren above all else, with gardening and catching up on General Hospital close behind. In recent years, she especially loved attending plays and concerts with friends from the "Brit Club" and with her favorite Scottish lassies. Maureen was well known for her handmade sausage rolls and for always being ready with a wee cuppa and a blether for anyone in need.

“What’s for you won’t go by you” was one of her personal, heartfelt Scottish mottos. Her friends and family will miss her dearly — though the clan is confident they will rejoice together again.

A private memorial gathering for family and close friends will be held at a later date.

To our wee Mum: 
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
the rains fall soft upon your fields,
and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the hollow of his hand.
