McKenzie Elizabeth Heartley
Binder
Feb 14, 2012 — Oct 13, 2026
Ridgeland, South Carolina
McKenzie Elizabeth Heartley Binder, 14, of Ridgeland, South Carolina, passed away on October 13, 2026.
Born on Valentine's Day, February 14, 2012, in Beaufort, South Carolina, McKenzie grew up in the Lowcountry, surrounded by the beauty of Ridgeland and Bluffton, the love of her family, and the friendships she cherished.
A freshman in high school, McKenzie was an outstanding student who earned a place on the Honor Roll with straight A's. She was as beautiful in spirit as she was in appearance, with a kind heart and a gentle soul that touched the lives of those around her. She was the light of her parents' lives and brought a special kind of love, humor, and joy to her family that can never be replaced.
McKenzie loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, especially when it came to her family, friends, and animals. She found happiness in traveling, shopping, Starbucks and sushi dates, her cat Ray, and making beautiful creations with beads. Most recently, she had begun learning to play the guitar, embracing a new interest with the curiosity and enthusiasm that made her so special. It was the little moments spent with the people she loved that made life brighter, and those memories will forever be treasured by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
McKenzie leaves behind a family whose love for her knows no end and whose hearts are forever changed by her tragic and unexpected passing. Though her time here was far too short, the love she gave, the joy she brought, and the memories she created will remain a part of her family for the rest of their lives.
McKenzie is survived by her loving parents, Eric and Molly Binder of Ridgeland, South Carolina; her sibling, Phoebe Binder; and her grandmothers, Martha Reynolds of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Mavis Keith of West Columbia, South Carolina. She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her extended family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to their family, friends, and coworkers for the overwhelming love, care, and compassion shown during this incredibly difficult time. A special thank-you goes to Parker Smith and the entire McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation family for their kindness and support.
The family will honor McKenzie's life in a private ceremony. They will continue to celebrate the beautiful girl she was, holding close the memories, laughter, love, and countless moments that made her life so precious.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in McKenzie's memory to Palmetto Animal League, in honor of her deep love for animals.
McKenzie was born on Valentine's Day, a day dedicated to love. In her own beautiful way, she embodied that love every day. Fourteen years was far too short, but the love she leaves behind will last forever.
