Michael Johnson Taylor, 75, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away at home on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Michael was born on January 18, 1948, in Newport News, VA, to the late Dorothy Taylor Grana and Paul Taylor.
Michael was known by friends and family as Mike, and by his CVO motorcycle family as MikeyTee, AKA “The Juiceman.”
As a teen, Mike was a member of the Warwick Yacht Club Swim Team in Newport News, VA, earning many awards in the backstroke. He was an exceptional Center for his high school football team. After completing high school, he would begin his lifelong career in the electrical industry.
Mike’s family relocated to Charleston, SC in 1972 where he worked for Cameron & Barkley for many years. He would later open his own electrical supply business. While that was his career, his passion was racing. From his time at the Summerville Speedway Dirt Track, to working the pits as a gasman for several legendary drivers on the Sportsman and NASCAR circuit.
Mike’s greatest hobby was motorcycle riding, which took him across the country where he made many lifelong friends. Throughout these adventures, his family always came first. Mike will best be remembered as a jokester, a storyteller, a loyal friend, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his loving stepfather, David Grana.
Mike is survived by his wife, Susie, his high school sweetheart, who recently celebrated 57 wonderful years of marriage; daughters, Donna Witt (Jim) and Shelley Peele; sister, Becky Dashiell (Jerry); brothers, Patrick Taylor (Peggy) and Peter Grana (Christine); 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. And of course, he wouldn’t want us to forget his four-legged companion – and only son – Winston. They will carry his legacy forward with gratitude and love.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 24, 2023, from 2-7pm at their home in Summerville, SC.
Per Mike’s wishes, cremation was handled by McAlister-Smith Funeral Home.
