Monita Annette Patry

July 28, 1938 — February 7, 2022

Monita Annette Patry, 83, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2022.

Born on July 28, 1938 in Lewiston, Maine, Monita was a daughter of the late Alfred Romeo Patry and Rolande Rancourt Patry.

Before joining the US Air Force, Monita received her nursing degree from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Lewiston, Maine. She retired from the US Air Force as a Major after 20 years of service as a clinical nurse, receiving the Air Force Longevity Service Award with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Service Defense Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. While serving Monita earned her Bachelors Degree in nursing. Always interested in the care of others, Major Patry became a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner who then completed the USAF School for Aerospace Medicine course, using these skills in the transport and care of many wounded soldiers across the United States. She was the Medical Crew Commander aboard the Nightingale, a C-9 Airborne Hospital ward. During her military career, she got to see much of the world and was stationed abroad at Lajes Field Air Force Base in the Azores, Okinawa Air Force Base in Japan, and here at home in Travis Air Force Base in CA and Andrews Air Force base in Maryland.

After retirement, Major Patry lived in Escondido, California and volunteered for the American Red Cross, helping manage a blood bank in San Diego County. She enjoyed hitting the links and was a member of two golf courses in Escondido: Twin Oaks Golf Course and Castle Creek Golf Course and even got two holes in one. She was a member of the Motor Maids Motorcycle Club and at one point she and a friend motorcycled across county from California to Maine. Her care for others extended into a love for all animals and she was an avid supporter of animal shelters.

Monita is survived by a sister, Helen (Roger) Bilodeau of Estero, FL, two nephews, Craig (Chen Chih) Bilodeau of Dallas, Texas, Christopher (Alyssa) Bilodeau of Carlisle, PA, and one niece, Cathleen Kiki Bilodeau of Mount Pleasant, SC, and 8 great nieces and nephews: Hannah, Aja, Jade, Remy, Alande, Lexy, Xaiden, and Nina.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date at Christ Our King Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, SC.

The burial with military honors will follow at Beaufort National Cemetery, 1600 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC.
