Ebbo S. Leonzio (Al), of Mt. Pleasant SC, passed away at the age of 96, on Saturday, January 20, 2018 of heart failure with family by his side. He was born July 21, 1921 in Wilmington DE, to the late Giovanni and Adelia Angelini Leonzio.

Al married his late wife, Josephine DeCarlo Leonzio on April 22, 1941. A World War II Veteran, he served in Osaka, Japan (1944 – 1946). He moved to Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina in 2011 to be with his daughter Frances and her family. Al was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church where he served as a greeter at the 9:30 mass. He joined the Knights of Columbus in Delaware and transferred to East Cooper Council 9475 and is a third degree Knight. Al has helped with the oyster roast, spaghetti dinner, book sale and operation hope. On May 22, 2017 at his great- grandson’s graduation from Fort Benning, Georgia boot camp, he received a Certificate of Appreciation for his service in World War ll, and a pin for his hat. He was thrilled and honored. Al enjoyed bowling, golfing, stained glass, tinsel painting, decorating the church, and watching sports on TV.

He is survived by his three children, Frances (Thomas) Franzone, Deacon Robert J. Leonzio, and Albert J. Leonzio; seven grandchildren, Mark (Elaina) Franzone, Lynda Franzone, Thomas M. (Regina) Franzone, Alyssa (Jason) Leonzio Sparklin, Jennie Leonzio, Hillary Leonzio and Corey Leonzio; ten great- grandchildren, Roman, Rosario, Gabrielle, and MacKenzie Franzone, Connor and Dylan Delaney, Reid Ziomek, Coleman and Caroline Franzone and Taylor Leonzio; step great- grandchildren, Alex and Maddie Harlan; and his sister Helen Johnston.

Besides his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his siblings: Larry, Johnnie, Pete, Sammy, Alica, Julia, and Eva.

Visitation will be held, Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Christ our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant SC. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately after. A burial will be held in Wilmington, DE.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the extraordinary hospice group at Hospice of Charleston, especially Betty Young, Alexis Vanderveen, as well as his sitter Denise Cochran. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Rd., Suite 200, Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
