Dr. Owen G. Bossman, of Daniel Island, South Carolina passed away on February 4, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 89 years old. He left behind a life defined by service, dedication, and a deep commitment to his family and community.
Born and raised in Western New York, Dr. Bossman graduated from Bishop Timon High School, University of Notre Dame, University of Buffalo Medical School and received an MBA from Canisius College. Dr. Bossman practiced medicine for many decades at the Buffalo Medical Group and was an attending physician at Buffalo General Hospital. He was widely respected by his patients and peers for his professionalism, integrity and compassion. Among his most personally meaningful roles was his time as team physician for the Buffalo Bills from 1970-1988. It was a position he held with great pride and responsibility being the first internist hired by the NFL. His affiliation with the Bills reflected not only his medical expertise, but his lifelong love and connection to the Bills and greater Buffalo community.
Beyond his professional career, Dr. Bossman was an avid golfer which remained a lifelong passion. He also enjoyed playing squash. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in Maine from 1963-1965.
Dr. Bossman was predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years, June, and his grandson Alexander. He is survived by his devoted wife of 9 years, Amy, his children Christopher (Leslie), Matthew (Jennifer), Ellen (Robert) Kaplinsky, his stepsons Dean and Luke (Kelly) Casagrande his brother Robert and sister Carolyn (Jay) Conniff. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Melissa, Audrey, Nicholas, Joshua, Lauren and Gabrielle. Step-grandchildren Andrew and Madelynn, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life in the Chapel at Seacoast Church, 750 Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant, SC on March 7th at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rolfe Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. www.rolfefoundation.org.
