Randa Sanders

Listen to Obituary

Randa Sanders, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on May 31, 2026. Born on August 12, 1936, in Columbia, South Carolina, Randa lived a life devoted to education, family, and faith.

Education was an important part of Randa’s life. Her father was superintendent of Richland County Schools, so it was only natural that she would become a teacher. She taught middle and high school science for 39 years with her three daughters following her footsteps with their own careers in education. Teaching science generated an appreciation and interest in nature. Randa loved gardening, birding, living at Folly Beach, and being in nature. Her husband’s career as Natural History Curator at the Charleston Museum provided many opportunities for them to travel around the world. Randa attended Folly Beach Methodist Church and appreciated the fellowship of those she came to know at church. Above all, Randa’s world revolved around her family. Her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother gave her great joy, while her love and guidance provided her family with beautiful lasting memories. She was the heart of her family.

Randa is survived by her three daughters, Rene Jones and her late husband, Barry Jones, of Summerville, South Carolina; Lynn Bustle and her husband, Ricky Bustle, of Athens, Georgia; and Penny Easterby and her husband, Glenn Easterby, of James Island, South Carolina. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca Rogers, Brad Bustle, Sarah Fitzpatrick (Michael), Kory Easterby, and Kellen Easterby; and her great-grandchild, Hampton Rogers.

A graveside service celebrating Randa’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 18, 2026, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Charleston, South Carolina.
