Richard A. Addy, known as Dick to his many friends, went to be with the Lord on June 25, 2025. From Columbia, SC, he was the son of William B. And Ethel Cunningham Addy.

He was a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1972. Richard was a dedicated state employee for 30+ years with the South Carolina Department of Revenue. He was also the announcer for the old Columbia Mets, and sports commentator for WIS Radio. Dick also was a small business owner dealing mainly in sports memorabilia. Richard was still working as the Columbia High School football team's announcer for the last few years.

Richard was an avid collector of all sports-related memorabilia but what Richard collected the most was friendships. Richard loved being around people and everyone knew that if Richard met a stranger, he would walk off with a new friend. Richard loved to be in groups of people no matter how big, like the Old Columbia High School Alumni, or small like You May B From Columbia Breakfast Group. Richard was always the first in the door and made everyone feel welcome. He really could keep the conversation going no matter what the topic. If you were lucky enough to have Richard as your friend, you could always depend on him to be the one person to always check on you. The phone call could be from anything from "how are you" if you were sick, to politics, or what you were watching on TV. When Richard was your friend, he was your friend for life.

As anyone who knows Richard can attest, he was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. He would let you know if they were winning or losing with lots of facts in his commentary. That was his team, and he was a SUPER FAN. He could quote you any line up, batting averages, and stats for years and years. He could tell you the history of all the players. If there was not a game on that weekend, Richard would focus on Live On Patrol. He truly loved that show. Richard started the Facebook Group Live PD just to keep up with what people thought about what was going on in their town or state, as well as what everyone was having for dinner while watching the show. He loved talking to everyone about the things and places he recognized when something was based in SC. Richard would attend every event if he could whenever the Richland County Sheriff's Office hosted an event for the Deputies on the show. Richard loved hanging out with them. The Richland County Sheriff's office lost one of their biggest fans.

Richard is survived by his beloved long-time companion, Ms. Lisa Grantham, as well as his multitude of friends who considered him family. Richard was truly a "Good Guy" and will be deeply missed. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff on the 8th floor South Wing of the Lexington Hospital for the special care Richard received from them. They were such a blessing to him during his final days. We also extend deep thanks to all his many friends who made a point of visiting, calling and just making sure that he was aware of how much he meant to all of us who loved him.

Thank you all.
