Richard James Lewis, age 88, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 14, 2025. Born on September 29, 1936, in Frostburg, Maryland, Richard was the son of the late Lillian May and Harold Morgan Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Ann Maher Lewis; children, Sharon (Kevin) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Gregory (Missy) of Williamstown, New Jersey, Mark (Beth) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and ten grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Judith Niner of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and his brother Robert Bruce Lewis (Elaine) of Salem, Virginia.

After serving four years in the Air Force, Richard attended West Virginia University, where he graduated in 1963 with a BS in Mathematics. He and Elizabeth were then married on February 2 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Midland, Maryland and moved to Huntsville, Alabama. He started his first job at the Marshall Space Flight Center, beginning a successful 35 year career with General Electric (GE). Richard soon relocated to Rockville, Maryland, where he helped launch GE’s Information Services business and rose to the level of Section Manager in charge of Global Network Operations. Subsequently, he moved with his family to the Netherlands where he ran the European Technical Operations for GE in Amsterdam. Richard concluded his career with GE back in Rockville, MD.

Richard will be remembered as a wonderful husband, loving father, and grandfather to his ten grandchildren. He was an avid fan of history, cars, sports (especially lacrosse), furniture making, and classical music. He will be missed immeasurably.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 950 Darrell Creek Trail, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466. A reception will be held following the mass at the Parish Center.
