Robert Gordon Schad, 86, of St. Helena, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
Born on May 20, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA, Robert was the son of the late May Schad and the late Harold Schad.
Robert "Bob" was born May 20, 1939, near Jenkintown, PA, where he grew up playing sports, developing particular passions and skills for golf and soccer. After graduating from Philadelphia’s William Penn Charter School in 1957, he attended Bucknell University where he was an All-American soccer player and team captain during his tenure. While at Bucknell, he met Patricia Brown who would later become his wife. Upon completing college, Robert served in the US Army Reserves as a Field Artillery Commander, after which he completed a graduate degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Shortly after getting married, Robert and Patricia moved to Huntingdon Valley, PA, not far from where he grew up. Here they raised a family of three children: Christina, Donald and Cindy. While navigating their life there, he worked in investment banking during the week, spending his weekends golfing and avoiding yardwork, as best he could.
Upon becoming empty-nesters in the mid 1990's, Patricia and Robert left the cold winters of the northeast and moved to Dataw Island, SC to build their dream home on the marsh. They both easily transitioned into their new southern life, falling in love with their new home, view and community on Dataw Island and the overall charm of Beaufort and the low country. Bob spent his days playing nearly endless rounds of golf and reflecting on the beauty of his new surroundings.
Please join his family at Robert Schad’s funeral on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, at 10:30 am at St Peter’s Catholic Church, 70 Lady’s Island Dr, Beaufort, SC 29907.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Harold Schad; brother, Richard Schad; and sister, Marilyn Schad Killian.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Cindy Baker (Stephen) and Christina Schad; son, Donald Schad (Jennifer); and grandchildren: Wesley and Dylan Baker, Grace and Molly Schad.
