Robert "Bob" James Brinson, Sr.

Robert James Brinson, Sr., 87, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Judy Ann Brinson, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family on Thursday, February 1, 2024.

Born on November 19, 1936 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Vera Nell Rudisill and the late William Norman Brinson.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Barbara; and his brother Barry. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Judy; two sons: Robert Jr. (Kelley) and David (Kelly); and his six grandchildren: Parker, Miller, David Jr., Daniel, Caroline, and Sawyer.  He is also survived by his brother, Bill; sister, Betty; and sister-in-law, LouEllen; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was a strong follower of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an active member of many church and Christian-based organizations in the Charleston area, the latest being EastBridge Presbyterian Church, PCA of Mount Pleasant serving as an elder, and Sunday School teacher. Robert was a Veteran of the U. S. Navy and received his Honorable Discharge in 1960. He was an Engineer and finance manager by education, having received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and his M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Chicago. He was Founder and CEO of two start-up companies and was involved in many College of Charleston Entrepreneurship Courses.

Robert was a member of the Small Business Institute Directors Association, the International Council of Small Business, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.  Robert’s passion was to spend time with his family, immediate and extended.

The family will receive friends on Monday, 5th of February, 2024, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral & Cremation Mount Pleasant, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29464.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at EastBridge Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant, 1250 Lexington Drive, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one of three organizations sponsored by members and supporters at EastBridge Presbyterian Church;  Marie's School, Lifeline Child Services, and LowCountry Pregnancy Center.
