Ronald David Yow, 76, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Born on March 16, 1950, in Monroe, North Carolina, Ronald was a son of the late Betty Mitchell Toole and Paul Yow. Ron grew up in Hanahan, SC and graduated from Hanahan High School where he played four years of varsity football. He went on to earn his degree in Criminal Justice from Fox Valley Tech in Appleton, Wisconsin.
Ron was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He received three Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars among other medals for his bravery and service.
While serving in the Vietnam War, he met his wife, Nancy of 54 years through her brother, Rodney, who was also a Marine. Together, Ron and Nancy raised their son and daughter in Appleton, Wisconsin, before moving to Ron's native South Carolina for their retirement. Ron served with the Outagamie County Sheriff's Department for 35 years. During his retirement, he was an active member of South Carolina police pistol league. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, tending to his plants, and playing with his beloved grandpups.
Ronald is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Martin and Dorothy Werner, and his brother-in-law, Howard Steinhilber.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Yow; his son, Matthew (AnnMarie) Yow and grandson, Rhodes of Bunnlevel, NC; his daughter, Joanna Yow of Goose Creek, SC; his brother, Roger (Jackie) Yow Sr. of Moncks Corner, SC; his sister, Cherie (David Sr.) Lamontagne of Farmington, NH; his brothers-in-laws, Rodney (Marilyn) Werner of Baraboo, WI and Robert (Holly) Werner of Iron Mountain, MI; sister-in-law, Barbara Steinhilber of St. Germain, WI; and cherished brother by choice, Richard (Diane) Acree of Brentwood, TN; and many other family members and friends in both Wisconsin and South Carolina.
The family will hold a celebration-of-life at 11:00 AM on June 12th, at McAlister-Smith funeral home in Goose Creek.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Kidney Foundation.
