Listen to Obituary

Sarah Elizabeth Haynes Bridewell passed peacefully on September 14, 2025, in Charleston, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of family.

Born in Sandy Ridge, Alabama, on March 15, 1932, Sarah was the daughter of Nan Skinner Haynes and Edward Eaton Haynes. She was predeceased by her husband, David Glenn Bridewell; her brother, Robert Eaton Haynes; and her granddaughter. Katherine Elizabeth Czarnomski.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Martha Bridewell McNeil and son-in-law, David McNeil, as well as grandsons, David Edward Czarnomski and Michael Eric Czarnomski, who cared for her with love and dignity until her final breath. She is also survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Bridewell and grandson, Evan Izzi.

Sarah was a woman of remarkable spirit and grit, a tough old bird who lived life on her own terms. She loved her farm in Greenpond, Alabama, where she tended her gardens and delighted in the birds and the quiet beauty of nature. She was also a gifted seamstress who created beautiful quilts, each piece reflecting her patience and creativity. A lifelong educator, Sarah earned her degree from Troy State University and held a master's degree from the University of Alabama. She taught school for 30 years, sharing her love of learning with generations of students.

Her dedication to her community was equally strong. She served on the Greenpond Library Board, acted as a treasure for her church, and taught Sunday school, encouraging young people to think about the world beyond the church walls. In earlier years, she helped Eagle Scouts with their service projects, embodying the values of service and mentorship.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Crescent Hospice, Remy Wilkins, Sarah Sams, and the members of The Addison caregiving team for their exceptional care and compassion.

Sarah will be remembered for her strength and determination rather than outward affection, qualities that shaped her life and guided those who knew her.

The family will gather privately to honor her life. No public service will be held and no memorial contributions are requested.
