Steven Theodore Krueger

Steven Theodore Krueger, 39, of Goose Creek, South Carolina passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Born on July 2, 1987, in Winfield, IL and raised in Wheaton, IL.

As a child he loved trains and then later roller coasters and eventually became a Nuclear Electricians Mate for the Navy. He played soccer in grade school and junior high, excelled in gymnastics in junior high, high school, and college, and played the trumpet in concert, jazz and marching band. Steve graduated from Wheaton North High School in 2005. After stints at Purdue University in Indiana, and University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, Steve ultimately joined the Navy in February of 2009 and became a Nuclear Electricians Mate serving on a nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Springfield in Groton, Ct. It was while he was attending nuclear power school in Goose Creek that he met his soul mate, Sarah Stafford. They were married just before his first deployment. After 2 deployments, Steve left the Navy and settled in Goose Creek where he built a life with Sarah. He began his career at Nucor Steel as an Industrial Electrician. He was enrolled at ASU to obtain an Electrical Engineering degree. He was on track to advancing to Automation Engineer at Nucor.

Quiet, reliable, steady. Easy to laugh, up for any adventure, first to show up. Kind, loving, giving. This was our Steve. So many different facets yet also that consistent calm for anyone that knew him. Steve loved going to concerts and even got to crowd surf! He loved lots of music; a passion started by his parents. Something that continued to bond him with his sister and brother. Playing video games kept him connected with his best friends long after high school. He was passionate about running marathons, something he did with his brother-in-law. There were plans for him to go to NASA Space Camp. He was skilled at carpentry, electrical stuff, just a Mr. Fix It. Steve was bonded in nature through their garden, conservation, and bird watching.

Steve lived a full and contented life with Sarah. So many adventures. But also, so much calm in the life they had together in their home. Where he renovated a lot himself and built a garden in the back with and for Sarah. He loved his fur baby Elf. He loved playing Rock Band with his nieces. He loved family gatherings, near and far. But most of all, he loved Sarah. They loved every small and big thing about each other. All the trips, all the household stuff, and all the FOOD!! He would try ANY food!! Steve supported and showed up for any and every event that his family was involved in.

Such a full life. So many loving memories. We will miss Steve forever.

Steve was preceded in death by grandparents: Theodore and Signe Krueger, and Harry and Virginia Swenson.

Steve is survived by his loving wife Sarah Krueger; parents, Michael and Linda Krueger; siblings, Eric Krueger (Alissa), Amy Krueger (David), and Moon St. Amand (Chris); nieces and nephew: Patrick, Adalyn, Briana, and Eloise Krueger; Kaylee and Lexi St. Amand.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 29, 2026 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home in Goose Creek.
