November 12, 1943 – April 16, 2026
Terrence “Terry” Edward Dwan passed away on April 16, 2026, in Edisto Beach, South Carolina. He will be buried next to his beloved wife, Gaylon Lee Dwan, in Gladewater, Texas.
After raising mayhem growing up with his four siblings in Torrington, CT, Terry obtained degrees from the University of Wyoming and the University of Oklahoma. He and Gaylon were Air Force Veterans who traveled the world together. Terry enjoyed outdoor adventures and nature, wild animals, and reading about a wide variety of subjects.
Terry was a Professor Emeritus and Chair of the Department of Engineering at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. He was passionate about working with his colleagues and his students, and was voted Professor of the Year several times. Terry formed a close community with cherished friends and neighbors, and cared for several neighborhood cats, including Little Guy and Callie.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gaylon Lee Dwan; his parents, George and Mary McGrath Dwan; and his siblings, Mary Ann Borla and Timothy J. Dwan. He is survived by his siblings, George “DeeDee” Dwan and Clare Wylie, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Terry will be remembered for his independent spirit, intelligence, and wonderful sense of humor.
