Thomas F. Moore, 81 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Born on November 27, 1944 in Boston, MA , Tom was a son of the late Bridget (Adomitis) Moore and the late Arthur Thomas Moore.
Tom spent over 35 years working in Hospital Administration and Finance for both Charleston Memorial Hospital and MUSC. He was a fierce advocate for public health, highly regarded for his brilliant financial stewardship and operational savvy. His leadership saved countless jobs and ensured that generations of families maintained access to life-saving medical care in Charleston. Above all, Tom placed a priority on his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Known to his grandchildren as "Putt Putt," he embraced every chance to care for his grandchildren and teach them so many things, from swimming to reading. His family is endlessly proud of him and grateful for the love that he showered upon them. He was a pillar of wisdom, kindness, and integrity.
The beach was a special place for Tom. He was an avid surfer in his younger days, gracing shores across the world from Rota, Spain to Folly Beach. He was passionate about cars, especially street rods, and was a long-time member of the National Street Rod Association.
He was proud to serve his country in the US Navy and Navy Reserves. He also served as Vice President of the Charleston chapter of Make-A-Wish.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Thomas Moore and Bridget (Adomitis) Moore; his brother, Frank Moore.
Tom is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Anne (Martin) Moore; daughter, Samantha (Moore) Haire and her spouse Paul Haire; son, Dr. Brian T. Moore and his spouse Jessica (Simmons) Moore. He is survived by his four grandchildren; Sydney Haire, Thomas Moore, Charlotte Haire, and Gillian Moore. He is also survived by his cousin, Bernadette Branch, and his niece Katie Moore.
A Celebration of Life memorial is being planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish of South Carolina.
