He was born June 24, 1930 in Winchester, New Hampshire in his maternal grandparents, Sadie and Charles Manning’s home. He lived with them for several years during the depression period. The family moved to Maine in 1943 and he graduated from Rockland High School. He participated in many activities and received letters in both football and baseball.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1948. He was assigned to a crash boat and rescue unit attached to Alameda Naval Air Station in California. He was part of a crash boat crew that received a commendation for rescuing flight members from a burning seaplane.

Taking leave, he journeyed to Maine to marry his wife Betty, the love of his life, on July 7, 1951. The couple went to California, where they lived until he was honorably discharged in June 1952.

In January 1957, he and his family relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts where he was employed by American Bosch Company. Initially, he was a machine operator in the factory. Moving along through various positions, he was Manager of OEM and Military Sales at the time of his retirement in 1998, after 41 years of service.

In November of 1958, the family moved to Enfield, Connecticut, where he lived for over 60 years. As an active member of the United Methodist Church of Enfield since 1961, he felt extremely blessed by the spiritual growth and memorable long-lasting friendships with the congregation.
