William Carl "Bill" Sketo, Jr., 80, of West Columbia, passed away on April 16, 2026. Born June 12, 1945, in Bomant, Mississippi, he was the son of William Carl Sketo, Sr. and HeStella Hayes Sketo.

Upon graduation from high school in 1967, Bill enlisted in the United States Army on September 7, 1967. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam from May 1969 through May 1970. During his enlistment, Bill earned the Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Bars, Expert ranking (M-14 & M-16 rifles), and the Bronze Star Medal. Bill attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before leaving the army on October 20, 1972 after 6 years of service.

Bill married Lottie Mae McCutcheon Sketo on December 28, 1979 and were married for 47 years before she passed.

He became a General Contractor with his friend, "Uncle Luke", until he retired and started a nursery from the farm. He had a serious green thumb and could make anything grow.

He is survived by his stepdaughters; Shasta Mengedoht, Debbie Capps, Shonda Little, and Sabra Fox. His step son, Destin Goins, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Sketo, his mother, HeStella Hayes Sketo, his wife, Lottie Mae McCutcheon Sketo, his step son, Jackson Glen Goins, his step daughter, Darla Dawn Williams, his grandson, Charles Davant Mengedoht, and his grand daughter Jackie Lynn Hornsby.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Celestial Memorial Gardens. His niece, Shannon Contreras, will be officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after services at 1 Crystal Springs Drive in Lexington behind the Farm House Grill.
