William Huntley Summersell Jr., 58 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Born on January 4, 1968 in Charleston, SC, William was a son of Elizabeth Gail (Watson) Summersell and William Huntley Summersell, Sr.
He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Coast Guard, carrying that same sense of duty into his community as a Charleston County Deputy Sheriff. He was deeply committed to service, honor, and helping others. In addition to his work, he was an active member of The American Legion Post 147, where he served as Sergeant-At-Arms. There he valued the camaraderie and connection with fellow veterans. He also worked as a checker at the port, where he was known and respected by those around him. His life was defined by service, dedication, and quiet strength, leaving a lasting impact on both his community and those who loved him.
William is preceded in death by his father, William Huntley Summersell, Sr. and his grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Watson.
William is survived by his daughter, Brianna Leigh Heffron (Thomas) , granddaughter, Bindi Eliza, grandson, Beckett Keys; son, William Huntley Summersell III; mother, Elizabeth Gail Summersell; two sisters, Lori Summersell and Kelly Browder (Jay) 2 nephews, Caleb and Colton and niece, Carly.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, April 11 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412 with a celebration of life immediately following at The American Legion Post 147, 968 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions/donations may be made to The American Legion 147 and sent to 968 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
